Sepang will not renew SBK contract.
The CEO of the Malaysian circuit has cited the obligations already assumed towards the company responsible for the organization of F1 to improve the infrastructure of the circuit. These improvements are rather imminent to continue receiving the two most specially relevant events: MotoGP and also Formula 1.
– “In order to avoid financial slips we took the decision to focus our efforts in the World Championship of Formula 1 and MotoGP. If the financial situation improves, and our target audience show interest in carrying out the SBK race in our circuit, we consider reverting to the test here.”
F1 and also MotoGP assistance have proved very popular with the Malaysian while SBK does not create such impact. This circuit revamp costs might have led to the decision of not to renew the contract with Dorna. Sepang was the only circuit in the world to receive the World Championship Superbike, MotoGP and Formula 1. Furthermore, it seems unlikely for us to see SBK again at Sepang Internation Circuit while economics issues arent cleared.
