Maxwell Hazan is working on a maxi-motard

Maxwell Hazan and his company Hazan Motorworks are no stranger to motorcyclists that enjoy customized rides. From his workshop in Southern California we’ve seen a good share of special hand-built bikes.

This time though, Hazan Motorworks is working on a maxi-motard!

The project is dubbed by Maxwell Hazan as the HazanSMR, and at its core we can find a KTM LC8 V-twin engine with 932 cc capable of 110 hp at each throttle input. Best of all? The weight of the bike, when finished, won’t be higher than 140 kg! Yes, we’re talking about a maxi-motard bike with 110 hp to 140 kg of weight. Not bad at all!

The metal bodywork is all handmade, something Hazan Motorworks is known for, and Maxwell also customized some other elements like the sub-frame or positioning of the radiators.

As for suspensions, the choice went to WP elements on both ends, and the wheels are sourced from Marchesini and made in magnesium for that extra exotic flavour. Fitted with two discs up front matched to Brembo calipers, this HazanSMR maxi-motard will be a wheelie devil on a race track, especially if we consider that Maxwell chose to use slick tires for added traction and agility.

To complete the overall makeover there’s also a custom made exhaust system with an Akrapovic end-can, and that loud LC8 twin-cylinder engine also gets a special treatment courtesy of a pair of Keihin FCR 41 carburetors.

Maxwell Hazan already took the HazanSMR maxi-motard for a shakedown on track, and you can enjoy the footage here

Got to take the #hazansmr for a little shakedown run yesterday, the stock fork springs were wayyy too soft but was good to see how the massive thing felt…I was still way faster on a 450 here but I’ll do my best to change that. Thanks @patmaus & @cristianolguin64 for the footage and @alpinestarsus for the gear.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I’m a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i’ll be there to have some fun!
