Youngsters might be able to get a motorcycle license from 14 years of age if the proposal from Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun goes forward

According to a proposition made by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, in the near future the minimum age to acquire a motorcycle license can lower to 14 years of age from the 16 years we have now.

This proposal is an attempt from the ministry to fight back the motorcycle hooligans, and it also includes measures to change what’s happening with youngsters riding modified bicycles.

According to Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, these measures were the result of discussions held at the Children and Teenagers Social Issue, in late March, and the objective is to create awareness to the dangers of illegal motorcycle racing.

The recommendations include the creation of a school syllabus on the law and safety, and also lower the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle license to 15 or 14 years of age.

But Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun also said that some restrictions are also being studied, among them the fact that teenagers with license will only be allowed to ride motorcycles in certain areas, and they won’t be allowed to ride their bikes outside the period from 7am to 8pm.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
