Indonesia’s Wika to produce 50,000 electric motorcycles this year

Indonesian construction company PT Wijaya Karya (Wika) has announced plans to manufacture 50,000 electric motorcycles this year through PT Gesits Technologies Indo (GTI).

According to Wika president director Tumiyana,the electric motorcycle model Gesits, short for Garansindo Electric Scooter ITS, will be launched this coming September.

“Next year, we will produce around 100,000 to 150,000 units,” he said.

Gesits is an automatic scooter that is designed with a 5 kilowatt electric motor that is capable of running for 80 to 100 km on one charge. Charging time for its battery takes between one and a half to three hours.

The motorcycles is said to be manufactured with 89% local materials at an assembly factory in Cileungsi, Bogor, West Java.
