We’re almost at the first race of the MotoGP season, and while teams and riders are getting ready for the last official test before round one in Qatar, on March 10, Aprilia Gresini decided to (finally!) reveal their new RS-GP prototype with new colours to match.

The bike, although looking very similar to the bike used last season, has suffered a lot of improvements over the Winter break, with Aprilia Racing focused on improving the performance of the V4 engine. According to Aleix Espargaró – who remains for another season with the team -, this engine is already stronger than the one used in 2018, and that was clear on the tests they’ve done so far.

According to Aprilia Racing, the RS-GP has evolved not only in the engine department, but also on the aerodynamics. Of course the famous MotoGP winglets are fixed to the side fairings for increased front end downforce during acceleration and high speeds, while the chassis, one of the cornerstones of the RS-GP since the beginning in 2016, has remained the same twin spar structure but with revised geometry.

Aprilia Racing and the Gresini team, a structure led by Romano Albesiano from Aprilia’s racing department and Fausto Gresini as team manager, have decided to keep Aleix Espargaró for another season, and the Spaniard is expecting to finally bring Aprilia to the top 10 results at every race.

To join Espargaró, Aprilia Gresini also recruited Italian Andrea Iannone that left Ecstar Suzuki. Iannone, known to be a fast rider but with inconsistent results, and with too many crashes on his account, missed crucial MotoGP pre-season tests, so we haven’t been able to see what the “Maniac” can do with this new Aprilia RS-GP.
