Jakarta, Indonesia, was the stage of the very special event that Yamaha Racing held for MotoGP fans and specialized media to unveil the 2019 Yamaha factory team. Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales will continue to be riding the two factory YZR-M1’s, but this season the team will get a new main sponsor: Monster Energy.
While the green “M” will continue to be featured on the bike and team logo, this season Movistar opted not to continue sponsoring the factory Yamaha team in MotoGP, and for this reason the Iwata factory chose another sponsor. Monster Energy turned out to be the perfect partner for Yamaha, and so the famous green “M” makes for a big part of the Yamaha YZR-M1 livery.
The graphic design has been done by specialist and artist Aldo Drudi, famous for some of the most iconic helmet graphics we’ve seen on MotoGP racers, including Valentino Rossi’s helmet design.
The bike shown on this team launch in Indonesia shows much similarities with last year’s bike, including fairing design and aerodynamic options, like the two small winglets at the front that look like a mustache. We believe that since there’s going to be more test sessions until the first race of the season in Qatar, and with team being allowed to change the bike design until that first race, the new Monster Energy Yamaha team will be competing in 2019 with a different design than the one they’ve shown us in the team launch in Indonesia.
