The Yamaha MT-09 in Yamaha’s naked bike category instantly gained popularity globally. In the case of Malaysia, we all know there is an interest for smaller capacity bikes, aside from this, there is also a growing interest in the street naked category. To fulfil the demand and growing interest, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor launched the Yamaha MT-25 earlier today at an event themed “Rush of darkness”.

Alongside the Yamaha MT25,  HLYM also gave a sneak preview of a smaller 155cc Yamaha MT-15 which will be launched later in November 2020.

Hong Leong Industries Berhad’s Group Managing Director, DatoJim Khor said, “In 2019, the sales of motorcycles grew to a volume of close to 590,000 units. This was an increase of 8% compared to 2018, and we expect this trend to continue as we fulfil the void in the naked bike category in Malaysia.

The Yamaha MT25 packs aggressive styling and notable performance and is indeed a cutting-edge new addition to Yamaha’s class-defining naked bike segment. With high torque performance, high handlebar and upright riding position, the MT-25 will be a comfortable ride in the city. It has all the original Yamaha MT-Series DNA built-in with a multitude of innovative features”.

2020 Yamaha MT-25 Specs and Details

Being a street naked bike, the new Yamaha MT25 is a stunner with clean lines and masculine look. The new predator-type dual slant LED, LED headlights, LED signals and the air scoop on the tank compliments the overall “samurai streetfighter” look of the bike. Joining the bigger MT brothers in Yamaha’s naked bike lineup, the MT25 comes with an upright riding position and a high handlebar to cater to a comfortable riding position.

Speaking of the naked segment, the Yamaha MT-25 also focuses on high torque. The DOHC (8 valve) 249cc liquid-cooled 4 stroke inline-2 cylinder engine coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, the MT-25 pushes 26.5 kW at 12,000 rpm and a peak torque of 23.6 Nm @ 10,000 rpm.

Inverted front forks and mono-shock at the rear with adjustable preload takes care of suspension duties. As for brakes, the Yamaha MT-25 comes with a floating disc with 2 piston calliper at the front and a single-piston calliper at the rear.

Also, the MT-25 comes with dual-channel ABS as standard! Speaking of other electronics, the new MT comes with full digital LCD instrument cluster with shift timing light. there is also a hazard light function.

Yamaha MT-25 Price and availability

The Yamaha MT-25 is priced at RM 21,500 (excluding insurance & registration). HLYM offers two colour options for the MT-25- Ice Flu and Yamaha blue.

As for the availability of the Yamaha MT-25 in Malaysia; HLY announced the MT-25 would hit Yamaha Big Bike dealers starting 18th September 2020. Buyers who purchase this bike will also get an exclusive “first edition MT series” keychain and a free safety disc lock.
