Ivo Monticelli had the best start and took the holeshot, but it was Romain Febvre who would take over the lead of the race. Pauls Jonass moved up to the second place, while Jorge Prado moved up to third.

Prado followed in third place but quickly began to feel the pressure of Febvre, getting closer. Gajser, who had dropped two positions in the meantime, moved to fourth and Herlings continued to grow in the race, occupying the sixth place at this stage.

With 12 minutes and two laps to go, Jonass was 4.3s ahead of Prado. Herlings, who was recovering, had a slip and went off the track briefly, losing time to Arminas Jasikonis, his main opponent at the time.

In the meantime, Febvre sped up the pace and recovered time, recovering nearly three seconds in four minutes. At Lommel, the overtaking would even be completed on the 11th lap.

Gajser took third place with the race drawing to a close, but he fell shortly after.
