Yamaha will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the popular sportsbike model, the Yamaha YZF-R1 next year. In conjunction with the bike’s anniversary, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is expected to introduce the new generation Yamaha R1.

The last time the Yamaha R1 received updates was in 2019. The model managed to dominate the WorldSBK world championship stage courtesy of Toprak Razgatlioglu last year.

This indirectly puts the Yamaha R1 a notch higher than than the Kawasaki ZX-10RR and the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade.

Although Yamaha is in no rush to implement a major upgrade on this ‘superbike’ – with BMW and Ducati each introducing the M 1000 RR and Panigale V4 R that generate over 200hp – the arrival of the new Yamaha R1 is much anticipated.

As such, sources have claimed that Yamaha will be introducing a brand new R1 ahead of the model’s anniversary in 2023. Through a render by Young Machine as above, we have an idea as to how the model might be.

The 2023 model will not only come with a more powerful 998cc bi-crossplane engine (over 200hp) but will also be an aerodynamic winglet inspired by the YZR-M1 engine.

Although there has been no official announcement at this time, we can expect confirmation from Yamaha sometime soon.
