BMW Malaysia has finally unveiled the 2023 BMW M 1000 R for the local market with an official selling price of RM158,500.

Although developed with the S 1000 R platform, the M 1000 R gets the same engine as the M 1000 RR. As a result, the new M model offers 205hp at 13,000rpm and 112Nm at 11,000rpm.

An upgrade to the ShiftCam system also saw torque increase from 10,000rpm to 12,000rpm with the ‘redline’ placed at 14,600rpm compared to 12,000rpm on the S 1000 R. Based on the figure, this means that the M 1000 R is also a machine that can perform brilliantly on the race track.

In addition, this M 1000 R 2023 also comes with a shorter sprocket, 47 compared to 45 on the S 1000 R.

Gears 4, 5 and 6 are also shorter so that the M 1000 R is more friendly when riding in the city. For a more exciting experience, this BMW M 1000 R also comes with Shift Assistant Pro (quickshifter) as standard. Interestingly, riders can adjust the operation of this system either according to conventional gear change or GP gear.

The electronic package consists of four riding modes. The modes consist of Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race. In the circuit, riders can opt to activate Race Pro 1, Race Pro 2 and Race Pro 3.

Other features include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) which includes wheelie-limitation, pit-lane limiter, launch control and hill-start control (HSC).

However, the main focus is of course on the aerodynamic winglet. According to BMW, apart from highlighting the aggressive look of the M 1000 R, the winglet also works to produce a ‘downforce’ of up to 10kg at a speed of 218km/h.

Brakes are handled by twin 320mm brake discs matched with 4-pot brake callipers at the front and 220mm brake discs with 1-pot callipers at the back. Brakes are also supervised with ABS Pro and Brake Slide Assist. Riders can access information through a 6.4-inch colour TFT screen.
