The Norton Nemesis—a name unfamiliar to many in the motorcycle community. Yet, within its shroud of anonymity lies a machine destined for greatness but consigned to the annals of myth. Boasting a 1,500cc V8 engine, this singular creation remains a mythical figure in the motorcycle world.

British engineer and bike builder Allen Millyard has been tasked by the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham to restore this rare gem. The Nemesis, crafted in the ’90s, has languished as a non-running exhibit for years, awaiting rejuvenation.

Millyard’s latest video at Ride Apart documents his efforts to breathe life into the Nemesis V8, focusing on the restoration of its front end. A seemingly simple task quickly reveals layers of complexity as the bike’s intricate design presents unique challenges.

Servicing the suspension, and brakes, and fitting a new front tyre reveals the Nemesis’ engineering intricacies. Disassembling the front wheel requires significant effort, with the brakes, front fender, axle housing, and brake callipers intricately connected in a two-piece assembly.

The Nemesis’ unconventional brake design, with rotor mounts on the outside, adds further complexity. Removing the wheel requires meticulous manoeuvring, highlighting the precision needed to work on this extraordinary machine.

As Millyard meticulously disassembles each component, the fragility of the task becomes apparent. With little room for error, a single misstep could undo hours of work—a testament to the intricacy of the Nemesis’ design.

Yet, as each piece is cleaned and polished, Millyard’s expertise shines through. With finesse honed by years of experience, he navigates the complexity with ease, breathing new life into the Nemesis.

Millyard’s journey continues. Restoring the Nemesis’ 1,500cc V8 engine and ’90s British electronics is a daunting task. Enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the unveiling of the resurrected Norton Nemesis. It is a testament to its enduring allure.
