Earlier this month, Marc Marquez revealed that switching from Ducati to Aprilia or KTM was ‘a feasible option’ when considering his choices for the 2025 season.
In an exclusive interview with DAZN, the six-time MotoGP championship winner discussed his much-debated move to the official Ducati team. He shared that there were viable alternatives with other brands before finalizing his decision with the Bologna factory.
“It was an approach. It was option C, but yes, why not? In the end, there are two other brands, both European, that are doing well,” Marquez said.
He elaborated, “They have a working method, and they have made progress over the last few years. They are winning races, so yes, it was a real and feasible option.”
Marquez was referring to KTM and Aprilia, Ducati’s main rivals who are currently ahead of the Japanese factories, which are no longer of interest to the Spanish rider.
Márquez has now been without a win for 1000 days, dating back to his 2021 victory in Misano.
Ultimately, Marquez secured the seat on the official Ducati bike for 2025, edging out Jorge Martin. Consequently, Aprilia signed Martin and Marco Bezzecchi, while KTM recruited Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales for their Tech3 team. Notably, this season marks the first time Marquez has yet to secure a victory on a Ducati.
During the interview, Marquez was asked how many more championships he believes he can win. He boldly answered, “At least one.”
Currently, Marquez is battling Bagnaia and Martin for this season’s title. When asked which rival was stronger, he said, “Right now, Pecco. He has mental stability which is important. Then, the results. He is gaining momentum which can change, but it is scary.”
The #93 rider also noted that Pramac’s move from Ducati to Yamaha will reduce the Italian manufacturer’s grid presence next year.
Marquez also commented that the exit of Pramac from Ducati to Yamaha will also have major consequences, reducing the Italian manufacturer’s presence on next year’s grid.
“It was written that I would lose two Ducati bikes, and I also wanted the championship. As a Ducati fan, I now prefer there to be eight Ducatis on the track, because you have more information,” he remarked.
“But as a MotoGP fan, there have to be four Yamahas on track; there can’t be eight Ducatis,” Marquez concluded his conversation with DAZN.
As the MotoGP series heads to Silverstone for the next round, Marquez is currently positioned third in the championship standings, trailing leader Pecco Bagnaia—his future teammate—by 56 points.
