Honda’s Latest MSX 125 Monkey Bike is 125cc’s of All Round Urban and Off Road Adventure!
In case you have no idea about the Honda MSX 125 – known as the “Monkey”, it is a down-sized motorcycle with a scooter derived engine. The design is compact and makes the Monkey stable enough to function on and off city roads.
The first Honda monkey bike named Z50 was popularised in the 1960’s, arguably it became the world’s most popular method of entry to motorcycle for youngsters. In 2015, the Japanese manufacturer once again impressed all motorcycle enthusiasts with their MSX – also known as “the Grom”. Despite the recent models, no monkey bike has been officially sold in Europe for years, due to its minimal size and non-compliant emissions system.
However, things will change; this year Honda is going to mix the MSX’s usability with the classic style of the legendary Z50. Thus enabling Honda to create a modern take on the classic machine that will be legal to sell in emissions-restricted markets like Europe and America. The new 125 Monkey inherits the MSX’s wheels, brakes and front suspension. While in the back, the twin shocks replace the original mono shock design. One noticeable change in this model is its lower mounted exhaust pipe.
The fuel injection system hides behind the air filter housing on the right, with a similar cover on the left. The number plate light cleverly extends the rear length just enough to meet European legal demands that bodywork must extend beyond the rear edge of the back tire. In terms of performance the bike will be pure MSX125 – 9.65bhp at 7000rpm from a 125cc single and a weight of around 100kg.
