According to Rudratej Singh, President of Royal Enfield, quoted by Times of India, the motorcycle manufacturer division of Eicher Motors is preparing to enter the electric motorcycle market and, at the same time, Royal Enfield is also updating its combustion engines to be more environmentally friendly in accordance to new stricter pollution norms.
The new Interceptor and Continental 650 cc bikes are ready to be updated to new emissions standards, so that’ll be an easy task, but Royal Enfield will also update its smaller capacity engines to these new rules, and so we should expect new cleaner engines for the Classic, Bullet, Thunderbird and also the Himalayan.
Royal Enfield expects to be able to show us the refreshed and cleaner versions of these bikes by 2020, but the big announcement is that the Indian manufacturer already has a big team working on an electric platform
“We are working on various projects. Electric platform is one of the projects, where we have a large number of team working towards this. At the right time and at the right place, we will announce our plan”, said Rudratej Singh.
The new electric motorcycle by Royal Enfield hasn’t got a deadline to be shown, but if the company led by Rudratej Singh wants to keep up with the competition and follow the market trend, we won’t need to wait much more than 2020 to at least see a prototype or concept of the new Royal Enfield electric motorcycle.
