Yamaha hints new electric motorcycle with trademarks “TY-E”?

In case you didn’t know, Japanese firm Yamaha has filed a trademark application for “TY-E”. To us, this is a high likelihood for a new bike to come into production, specifically a new electric trial bike.

Yamaha’s trial bikes have constantly used the TY name since its production in 1973 in various displacements ranging from 50 to 350cc. Yamaha has carved its presence in the Japanese national championship with its factory team on the TYS250fi, whereas the FIM Trial and X-Trial championships are largely dominated by teams such as Montesa Honda, Gas Gas, Beta, Sherco, TRRS and Vertigo.

According to the trademark application filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the name TY-E name is for “motorcycles, motor scooters, mopeds, three-wheeled motorcycles, three-wheeled motor scooters, three-wheeled mopeds”.  It was also filed for “electric motorcycles, electric three-wheeled motorcycles, electric scooters, electric three-wheeled scooters and parts and fittings for all the aforesaid goods.” With the addition of the ‘E’ it is assumed that the bike will be an electric bike.

Could Yamaha be looking to enter the FIM’s Trial-E Cup? Stay tuned for more updates regarding the bike.
