Moto2 – Triumph tests the new engine and the Magneti Marelli ECU

Triumph finally joins the new Moto2 765 cc engine with the official Magneti Marelli ECU during the Motorland Aragón test

During a two-day test, Triumph is testing at Motorland Aragón racetrack the new engine that will be used by all the teams competing in the 2019 Moto2 World Championship. The development of this new engine has been going through many different phases, and it’s now entering the last stage before the teams may test it.

Up until now, Spanish test rider Julian Simón had been testing and evolving the engine using the stock ECU from Triumph, but at this test, Triumph finally has the chance to install the Magneti Marelli ECU that will be used in Moto2 next season.

This is an important step of the development of the engine, because without the official ECU, there’s just so much they could do.

Also new in this test, is a new front fairing. The test bike ridden by Simón now features a large front entrance to allow more air to pass into the engine. The engine itself, the three-cylinder 765 cc unit that we already know from the Street Triple, is finally in the 2019 spec and features other modifications like a redesigned crankcase, titanium valves and cylinder heads, as well as new intake funnels.

Now that Triumph already has the 2019 engine ready with the Magneti Marelli ECU, chassis manufacturers like Kalex, Suter and KTM will be able to start working on their bikes getting them ready to tackle next season.
