By now everyone that likes racing knows that Triumph will be supplying the engines for the Moto2 class in the World Championship, and using a special version of the three-cylinder 765 cc engine that equips the naked Street Triple road bike, Triumph has already received appraisal for its race-spec engine from racers that have already tested it.
With that engine and the focus of Triumph in racing activities, many have thought that this would be the perfect moment for the British manufacturer to bring back the Daytona supersport bike.
Although Triumph hasn’t said anything official about that project, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer, Steve Sargent, has spoken to Bennetts.co.uk, and confirmed that if people really want a new Daytona 765, then Triumph will make such a bike.
And if we look at fans talking about the Triumph Moto2 bike, then it’s almost a sure fact that the Hinckley based brand will definitely build a new Daytona with a Moto2 derived engine.
So, why isn’t Triumph already working on that project?
According to Steve Sargent, “You know as well as I do that the market for middlesized supersport machines has decreased greatly in the last year, so it’s always a challenge to say “can you build that bike”. In reality, is there enough demand for such a bike?”, asks Steve.
