We know Suzuki has stopped producing the mighty GSX-R1300 Hayabusa, as sales aren’t as good as a few years ago and because the powerful sport tourer from Suzuki doesn’t meet Euro 4 regulations. But we also know the Japanese manufacturer is already working on the next-gen Hayabusa, and now we’ve got some more details about the new bike.

According to some patent schematics that have been filed by Suzuki, what we see in the pictures are the details of the new exhaust system for the Hayabusa.

Big displacement sport tourers usually have a 4-2 exhaust system, meaning the 4 exhaust headers expel the exhaust gases through two exhaust silencers. And as we know, manufacturers pay close attention to the design of the exhaust system to get the most performance out of the engine, so the new exhaust system on the Hayabusa will feature an asymmetric design for optimized gas flow.

If you look closely to the picture of the top view of the exhaust, Suzuki has opted for a larger tube in diameter, with a straight line, for the right side silencer, while on the left side silencer the tube has a more bends and is smaller in diameter.

There’s also a valve to reroute the exhaust gas flow. At low revs, the valve only lets the gas to flow from the left side exhaust, while at higher revs the valve opens and both sides of the exhaust are working for improved performance. While improving engine performance is the main focus, this system also allows Suzuki to control the noise coming from the bike. New homologation procedures greatly reduce the noise allowed for a motorcycle, and the new Hayabusa will be quiet at low revs, but howl as a race bike at high revs.

There’s no photos of a concept or development prototype, so we don’t expect Suzuki to show a new Hayabusa for 2020. The new generation Hayabusa will probably be revealed during 2020 as a 2021 model.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
