In case you missed last week’s episode, iMotorbike’s weekly iM Cubaholic series covers everything about the iconic Honda Cubs. The Cub is one of the most important bikes in both the motorcycle and Honda’s history. Honda changed the way people look at riding motorcycles with the introduction of the Super cub and the ad campaign “You meet the nicest people on a Honda” back in the 1950s. Since then, Honda has sold over 100 million Cubs with a large Cub lineup/variants where some models are barely known. In this series, we cover everything from both known and unknown Cub models to their; history, specs, features and many more. Are you a Cub addict? well, this is something you wouldn’t want to miss!

In the last episode, we featured 2LOUD Custom’s Cub Chopper. However, as iM Cubaholic is a series that is dedicated to Honda Super Cub fans, we thought of featuring one of the important Cub events that took place in Honda Super Cub’s history.

Honda Super Cub 100 million memorial race

Since its first debut in 1958, Honda Super Cub has been loved by everyone worldwide. Three years ago, in 2017, the Super Cub surpassed 100 million units in production. To celebrate reaching this milestone, Honda organised the Honda Super Cub 100 million memorial race which took place during the Honda Racing thanks day back in 2017.

The race took place on the 3rd of December 2017 around Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan. The starting grid had a total of 14 participants from numerous racing teams. This included riders from HRC MotoGP team to MXGP, JSB, WCT and even race car drivers from Super Formula. Yes, you read the subtitle right! Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa took part in the race too!

For the choice of the machine, Honda went with the Super Cub 110 dressed in the riders’ official racing liveries. Powered by a 109cc single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, the Honda Super Cub 110 pushes 8.1 hp @ 7,500 RPM and a peak torque of 8.50 Nm @ 5,500 RPM. Thinking it’s not enough?
