Producing helmets with a ‘head-up display’ (HUD) system and a rearview camera is not a new thing as some helmet manufacturers such as Skully have already produced similar helmets.

However, Skully was embroiled in some controversy before the brand was confirmed to have failed completely last year.

Instead, Japanese helmet company, SHOEI will be the world’s first giant helmet manufacturer to introduce ‘futuristic’ helmets through SHOEI Opticson for the global market soon. SHOEI has already made a demonstration of HUD during the CES 2019 in Las Vegas.

Since then, the project has developed rapidly with SHOEI having already filed for the ‘Opticson’ name tag as well as showcasing several ‘Opticson’ helmets during the Osaka and Tokyo motorcycle shows in March.

The HUD system allows the helmet wearer to see all the info and information needed while riding.

Most importantly, the system allows the user to connect to a smartphone for a navigation application with travel information to be posted on the HUD. This allows the motorcyclist to no longer have to bend over to look at the phone screen while riding.

The success of the system as a result of a collaboration with Hiroshima company, NS West Inc gives the impression that Opticson helmets will be introduced to the public soon.
