Recently there have been rumours that Hong Leong Yamaha Motor will reproduce the iconic motorcycle, Yamaha RXZ for the local market. It is certain that the rumours are false but Yamaha classic motorcycle fans in Thailand can cheer as Yamaha Thailand is still producing those classic models, such as the SR400.
Yamaha SR400 was first produced in 1978 and was marketed in Japan before being introduced in other world markets after that including in Thailand. In conjunction with celebrating its 44th anniversary, Yamaha Thailand introduced the SR400 Black Gold Limited Edition.
The special model is limited to the Thai market only and comes in ‘Black Gold’ colour matching the colour of the first model produced in 1978.
Powered by a 399cc 4-stroke SOHC engine with air cooling, the Yamaha SR400 offers 22.9hp at 6,500rpm and 27.4Nm at 3,000rpm. Like the previous model, this limited edition SR400 uses a ‘kickstarter’ but has been upgraded with a ‘fuel injection’ system instead of a carburettor.
The suspension system comes with telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the back. Brakes are handled by a 298mm front disc brake and a rear drum brake. Completing the look of this limited edition Yamaha SR400 is the use of 18-inch spoked rims with tube-type tires.
Interestingly, only 400 units of this 44th-anniversary edition Yamaha SR400 are offered for the Thai market with each unit accompanied by a special number.
According to reports in Thailand, the Yamaha SR400 44th Anniversary Edition is sold at a price of THB309,000 (RM38k).
