Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that all road users have to renew their driving licence and road tax (LKM) by September 30, 2021. There would be no further extension period beyond that date.

With the implementation of the full movement control order (FMCO), the land transport agencies were closed. JPJ previously announced a leeway for renewals on June 1, where those with their driving license, LKM or vocational licence (PSV/GDL) expiring between June 1 to July 31 would be given an extension to renew the documents from August 1 to September 30 this year.

JPJ stated that it would not extend the moratorium, adding that checks to ensure compliance and enforcement by police and JPJ will commence from October 1 onwards. Until then, all vehicles with expired road tax must have a valid insurance cover, including motorcycles. As such, they will need to print out and keep their insurance e-cover note in the vehicle. Motorists will have to present it to the authorities upon request.

Road users can do their renewals online via the MySikap JPJ portal or through MyEG. For any transactions not available online, users can head over to the JPJ counters on an appointment basis.

JPJ has also discussed with Pos Malaysia to resume counter services for JPJ transactions. Pos Malaysia expects to have the services available again at all its 650-plus branches nationwide starting from August 9.
