Taiwanese scooter manufacturer, Kymco, has launched its latest maxi scooter for 2023 through the Kymco AK Premium 550.

Kymco AK Premium 550 is a ‘flagship’ variant born from the standard model, AK550 which was introduced in 2017.

According to Kymco, the AK Premium 550 comes with a more aggressive body panel although the overall design looks the same as the standard model. However, this new model comes with more premium features including traction control, cruise control and the AIBS Cornering Technology or ‘Cornering ABS’ system.

In addition, this AK Premium also comes with a ‘riding mode’ and a ride-by-wire function that ensures a smoother and more comfortable ride.

For the record, the Kymco AK Premium 550 features a two-inline 550.4cc DOHC engine with 8-valves. It is capable of generating 51hp at 7,500rpm and 52Nm at 6,000rpm. Just for comparison, the Yamaha TMax Tech Max 2022 offers 47hp and 55.7Nm from a 560cc parallel-twin engine.

Meanwhile, the Kymco AK Premium features front LED lights with more aggressive DRLs compared to the AK550.

Other features on offer include twin Brembo M40 front brakes, a 14.5L tank, 15-inch rims with 120/70 front and 160/60 rear, USD type forks and 270mm front and 260mm rear brake discs.

The Kymco AK Premium 550 is marketed in Europe at an official selling price of EUR10,999 (RM53k) making this model RM20k lower than the Yamaha TMax Tech Max which is marketed in Malaysia at a price of around RM74k.

Unfortunately, Kymco does not market their scooters here except for the Kymco X-Town 250 which was rebranded as Modenas Elegan 250EX.
