Speculations of Modenas’ plans to introduce the Dominar 250 this year were strong but details of the launch date were quite scarce.

However, recently Modenas has claimed that it will be launching the Dominar 250 this May at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 which will take place from 4 to 7 May.

The appearance of the 250cc version is perfect for riders who want a ‘sport-touring’ motorcycle but at a more affordable price.

Like the Modenas Dominar 400, the 250cc model will also be marketed with the Modenas badge.

Equipped with the KTM Duke 250 engine, the Dominar 250 joins the ranks of other 250cc displacement machines including the Yamaha R25, Honda CB250, KTM Duke 250 and Ninja 250.

However, as a ‘touring’ concept motorcycle, the 248cc single-cylinder DOHC engine has been tuned to produce 27hp at 8,500rpm and 23.5Nm at 6,500rpm compared to the DUKE 250 which generates 29.6hp at 9,000rpm and 24Nm at 7,500rpm. The presence of a ‘twin-cam’ also ensures that this engine has a higher peak torque and contributes to better engine power compared to a ‘single-cam’.

On paper, the Dominar 250 is capable of reaching a maximum speed of around 132km/h.

Based on the overall design, the Dominar 250 still maintains the features found on the Dominar D400 except for some significant changes including smaller tires, forks (USD) and brake discs. Interestingly, this 250 version is still equipped with dual-channel ABS.
