The seasoned 40-year-old rider has expressed his intentions to transition to the World Endurance Championship (EWC) in 2025, marking a significant shift in his career path. Despite setting his sights on this new venture, he remains uncertain about his immediate future in the Asian racing scene, particularly if he fails to secure a team.

“I’m still awaiting definite answers,” Azlan Shah stated, reflecting on his current situation. His previous team, TKKR Racing Team, recently disclosed their struggle to secure sponsorship, potentially jeopardizing their participation in the Asian circuit for the 2024 season. However, they remain committed to exploring options before the official start of the season next month.

“If there’s no spot available this year, I will retire early from the Asian circuit. I’ve set the age of 40 as the maximum limit for competing in Asia. Beyond 41, it becomes challenging to keep up with younger riders,” Azlan Shah emphasized, acknowledging the physical demands and age constraints of competitive racing.

Elaborating on his plans to venture into the EWC, Azlan Shah revealed that he had been contemplating this move since last year, particularly after his experience with Team Frontier at the Suzuka 8 Hours race.

“This year, I’ll also be participating in the Suzuka 8 Hours race, and if all goes well, I may commit to a full season in the EWC in 2025,” Azlan Shah disclosed, highlighting his strategic approach to transitioning into endurance racing.

“Endurance racing seems like a better fit for me at this stage. My body isn’t as resilient as it used to be… While we can still compete against younger riders, it requires twice the effort, especially in terms of stamina,” Azlan Shah admitted, acknowledging the challenges of aging in a physically demanding sport.
