Just a few days ago we told you that this year’s International GS Trophy would be held in Mongolia, from 3rd to the 10th of June.

BMW Motorrad has prepared the biggest and hardest GS Trophy ever, and Central Asia will be a good proving ground to all the competitors, including a team from South East Asia composed by Malaysian Mohd Apis Bin Sagimin, 35 years old, from Kota Tinggi Johor, and Aris Cuevas (Philipines) and Jakit Thawongpeay (Thailand).

With June fast approaching, BMW Motorrad just announced that all 114 R1200 GS Rallye bikes are ready and on their way to Ulaanbaatar, location that will serve as the GS Trophy headquarters.

But what exactly did BMW Motorrad changed on these GS Rallye bikes to endure the harshness of the International GS Trophy?

The base version of the “big GS” is a bike that allows riders to explore the World without too much worries. As such, the R1200 GS Rallye, a version first seen on the market in 2017, offers even more off-road performance due to its specific equipment.

The colouring in Lupine Blue metallic and in particular the frame powder-coated in Cordoba Blue go together with the black drivetrain and gold-finished brake callipers to create the sportiest standard “big GS” of all times, even from a purely visual point of view.

So here’s the full specification list of the BMW R1200 GS Rallye for the 2018 GS Trophy:
– Lupin Blue metallic paint finish.
– Cordoba Blue frame.
– Black drivetrain.

But this isn’t all the riders will find when they ride the GS Rallye during the International GS Trophy in Mongolia!

On top of these specs, BMW Motorrad mechanics added some other goodies: adjustable rider foot pegs, adjustable foot brake and gear lever, stainless steel cylinder head cover guard and engine protection bar, enduro style bash plate in aluminium to protect the lower part of the Boxer engine, headlight protection, stainless steel luggage grid, bag for pillion seat that can offers up to 18 liters of storage, first aid kit, and last but not least, for added engine protection BMW uses on the R1200 GS Rallye the Advantec Ultimate engine oil.

All these elements installed on the International GS Trophy bikes can be bought through your BMW Motorrad dealership as ex-works accessories. So, if you want to take the GS to extreme off-road conditions, this is a pretty good list of things to have on the bike.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
