Energica updates its range and presents the Ego Sport Black

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica, based in Modena, Italy, has prepared quite a few surprises for next year, and they’ve shown all of them at the German motorcycle show INTERMOT in Cologne.

The biggest news is, of course, the arrival of a new model dubbed Ego Sport Black.

This is basically an Ego electric superbike but with a paint scheme and graphics that mimic the development bike that Energica is currently using to create the Ego Corsa that will be used next season in the first FIM MotoE World Cup.

The fairings are painted in black, with some of them being made in carbon fiber just like the race prototype. The stickers are the way that Energica found to celebrate their sponsors in the MotoE World Cup, so whoever rides the Ego Sport Black will feel just like the real MotoE riders!

Energica will also make available the Sport Black kit to all Ego bikes, and this kit includes Tech Seat with red stitching, Ergal kits and counterweights. It will be available starting in 2019 together with the colors Lunar White / Titan Gray and Red Passion / Titan Gray.

But Energica always strives to go even further down the road of the electric future for motorcycles, and they’ve been working on electronic updates for the Ego and Eva bikes.

Throttle control will be even more efficient thanks to a better electronic command. This will detect movements in the throttle of just 0.01 ° (one hundredth of a degree), and this will translate in a better feeling for the rider, as the rider will be able to manage the acceleration of the electric bike with smaller throttle inputs. It’s always a bit tricky to obtain the best feeling on the throttle of electric motorcycles since they’re engine pumps out all the torque from zero RPM, and it seems Energica has found a way to control this.

Heated grips are now standard in 2019 bikes, and Energica will make available to all bikes, even the ones already produced, a software update which includes Charge Interruption at a Pre-set Level: The vehicle can be configured to autonomously stop the charge at a certain level. The user can configure this function through the dashboard; Battery Charger: Improvements on the cooling management of the on-board charger. It will be possible to activate a “silent” charging mode; More Charge / Less Time: The new software will increase the charge current in Fast Charge by reducing the charging time by 15%.

Together with the electronic features listed above, all Energica MY2019 motorcycles will be on sale with Fast Charge, dashboard TFT color display 4.3’’, four Engine Maps (four Riding Modes: Urban, Eco, Rain, Sport – four Regenerative Braking Maps: Low, Medium, High, Off) and Park Assistant as standard.

The USB port will be standard only on the Eva, Eva 107 streetfighter and Eva EsseEsse9 retro models, and optional on the Ego sportbike.

Energica also took the time at INTERMOT to explain that they’ve expanded their official dealer network, especially in Europe and United States, and also South Africa and now the Gulf countries, but unfortunately there aren’t any news regarding an official importer for Malaysia or Southeast Asian countries.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
