Moto2 – MV Agusta and Forward Racing together for 4 years

Confirmed: MV Agusta returns to the world championship with a team in Moto2

The Moto2 World Championship is about to get much more interesting from 2019 onwards, when the historic Italian brand MV Agusta makes a comeback, 42 years since they withdrew from the world championship. The Varese based company confirmed the deal with the Forward Racing team.

The agreement is for 4 years with an option for another 4 years.

MV Agusta has won 275 Grand Prix, 37 manufacturers’ and 38 rider’s titles, having raced in categories from 125 cc to 500 cc.

Giovanni Castiglioni, MV Agusta president, and Giovanni Cuzari, Forward Team owner, have been working together over the last few months on getting the Italian brand back on the world championship, and the project will have a huge input from the MV Agusta R&D department in Varese, since they’ll be designing the frame of the Moto2 bike. Suter Engineering will also help, but they’ll fabricate the swingarm.

Testing of the new MV Agusta Moto2 bike will start very soon, and the team will announce the test rider in the next few days.

But the partnership between MV Agusta and Forward Racing may become even more interesting!

Giovanni Cuzari admits he and Giovanni Castiglioni have a bigger dream: MotoGP!

If the Moto2 project goes as expected and the team gets the results they need to find better sponsors, it’s not hard to imagine that after the first four years in Moto2, they will want to enter MotoGP, and that will be a very interesting – and nostalgic – moment!

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
