Indian confirms FTR1200 will go into production

The FTR1200 prototype (in picture) will serve as a base to the FTR1200 production bike that will arrive in 2019

Inspired in the iconic FTR750, who dominated the American flat track championship in 2017 and 2018, the production of the FTR1200 concept shown at EICMA show last year has been confirmed by Indian Motorcycles at the recent event Wheels and Waves in Biarritz, France.

Indian announced that they will create a production version of the FTR1200 that will very much look like the FTR1200 concept that we already know, but will need to be changed in order to be rideable on the street.

This will be what we call a street tracker, and although Indian hasn’t shown any image of this new motorcycle, it did announce that the bike will have a trellis frame made in steel tubes, and powering the FTR1200 will be a new 1200 cc engine, not the 1133cc engine the oldest American motorcycle manufacturer uses on the Scout.

There’s no date yet for the arrival of the FTR1200 to the market, but Indian promises that it will be on sale in 2019.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
