Akrapovic gets a robot to run durability tests on exhausts

Technology is wonderful if applied in the correct way, and there are many ways motorcycle manufacturers are using technology to improve the bikes we ride on the road and on the track. But motorcycle accessories manufacturers are also pushing the limits of technology, and one of those brands is renowned exhaust manufacturer Akrapovic.

The Slovenian brand has just released some information and a video (watch it below) about a new robot they have created and are already using at the factory. And what does this robot do?

Well, motorcycle exhausts like the ones Akrapovic makes, are made for extreme use, either on or off-road, on the road or on the track. So, it’s really important for Akrapovic that their products last longer than the ones of their competitors, and that’s why they have come up with a robot to test the durability of the exhausts.

On a dyno, the robot can now test the Akrapovic exhausts simulating thousands of kilometers of road and track use, but without Akrapovic needing to take an actual test rider on a motorcycle fitted with a new exhaust. All this testing is done at the factory, and the robot doesn’t need the help of humans to run the complete durability test!

This new testing system even has the bike fueled by a specific fuel line, so the bike doesn’t need to stop for refueling. The robot will simulate throttle opening and closing, and its actuators will also change gears during the duration of the test.

This way Akrapovic can test their new exhausts without even leaving the factory, and in controlled conditions, making it easier to spot problems in their exhausts.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
