This copper bike by Mario Trimarchi will be fully oxidised within a century

Mario Trimarchi, a designer from Italy, has come up with a copper motorcycle as a way to challenge other people’s perception of lifespan of our belongings. The bike is built with the natural oxidation of copper and the body of the bike will transform from golden to green. Within a hundred years, the bike will slowly become completely oxidised, creating an exceptional aesthetic experience.

The project, named ‘Samotracia’, was created for the Italian design brand De Castelli and depicts the aesthetics of motion. The bike features a fairing that hides its engineering insides, which follows the body on the bike, providing a great experience to the riders when riding at high speeds.

‘For some time now I’ve been committed to understanding how speed is illustrated’, says Trimarchi.

‘I have integrated this obsession with the obsession of time that passes, which for me, takes part in the themes of our relationship with objects. a motorcycle was born, seemingly driving itself independently as though on burst mode.’
