We’re just two weeks into the new year and there’s already a motorcycle brand getting good news: The new Interceptor 650 has conquered the 2019 Indian Motorcycle of the Year award (IMOTY), giving Royal Enfield great reasons to celebrate.

The IMOTY is one of the most prestigious awards to be given in India, and it’s an honor any motorcycle manufacturer wishes to conquer. The new Interceptor 650 – as well as the Continental variant – has been well received by journalists around the world, with most praises going to the new engine, reaching new levels of refinement.

With 12 motorcycle models included on the final list to the 2019 IMOTY award, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has beaten the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3 (second place) and the TVS Apache RR310 (third place).

The jury takes into consideration parameters like relevance to the Indian two-wheeler market, value for money, apart from technical parameters like design, engine performance, efficiency, dynamics and practicality.

With an ever growing importance, the Indian Motorcycle of the Year award will be joined in 2020 by the now announced Indian Scooter of the Year award, underlining how relevant this award is to the market and riders.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
