American electric motorcycle manufacturer Lightning has already showed what they can do, going for the speed records at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats speed trials, but their newest superbike, the LS-218, promises to take superbike performance to a whole new level!
The new LS-218 is already being produced at the new factory Lightning set up in San Jose, California, and now that the first units have been built, the brand is revealing some more tech specs of this electric superbike.
According the Lightning, the LS-218 electric engine is able to produce the equivalent to 200 hp, basically the same power figure that we find on any current combustion engine superbike, but unlike the combustion superbikes, the Lightning LS-218 is able to offer the rider a maximum torque of 225 Nm, the double that a combustion superbike is able to produce!
This torque, that like in any other electric vehicle is delivered from 0 rpm, translates into a fantastic performance: Starting from a standstill, the LS-218 will hit 100 km/h in just 2,5 seconds, and Lightning says that time could be much better if the rear tyre was able to grip the asphalt to transmit all that torque.
But the real surprise comes when the LS-218 needs to accelerate from 150 to 240 km/h. This takes only 2 seconds!
We recall that Lighting Motorcycles is taking orders on the LS-218 electric superbike, with the American brand quoting a price of RM162.517.
