Tony Cairoli secures lead for Red Bull KTM after the Grand Prix of Trentino
Italy’s Tony Cairoli serves a stellar performance in his home town race to maintain his advantage in the MXGP ahead of Tim Gasjer.
The FIM World Championship made its way to Italy’s Acro di Trento for the Grand Prix of Trentino and Red Bull KTM was nothing short of impressive. Despite the rainfall and technicalities in the MXGP, this was no issue for Tony Cairoli as marked his first of three home Grands Prix for 2019. The racer championed the even in 2016 and 2017 and made it to third place last year in 2018. Tony Cairoli delivered sterling results with his KTM 450 SX-F. The Italian closed his run trailing behind Tim Gajser of Honda during the first moto. Despite that, the former nine times world champion set the fastest lap of the race on the final round. Carioli lost traction and crashed with two laps left to complete in the second outing. Tony Cairoli now stands in first place in the overall standings with 191 points, ahead of Slovenian Tim Gasjer, who has 175 points. “It is a positive weekend overall but I’m not happy with my second moto because I took a risk and crashed when I should have had the GP. A crash is always possible in motocross but we should take care not to get injured as it was close today. I’m disappointed by that but I’m happy to make the podium again: that’s four this season with three wins and a second place so it is difficult to be negative about how it has gone,” Cairoli states as quoted from KTM. The MXGP will be taking a break for four weekends before returning to Italy in early May. Round five will be taking place in the sandy Mantova.
