New Updated Triumph Street Triple R rolls out with a new aggressive look and features a High-performance 765cc Euro 5 compliant engine.

The Street Triple line-up made an incredible impact on the motorcycle world since its launch back in 2007. This is because of the unique styling and the three-cylinder engine on the street triple line-up. For 2020, the award-winning Triumph Street Triple R gets more aggressive, responsive and likewise accessible to all riders.

Triumph already unveiled the High spec Street Triple RS and the low spec S for the year 2020 a few months back. However, the missing 2020 Mid-spec street triple R was officially launched just a few hours back.

Last week we made a post on the leaked information regarding the same bike. We briefly listed out the features and specs that we could expect from the R. However, this time around we have the official specs and pictures of the 2020 Street Triple R.

Styling

Updated 2020 Triumph Street Triple R features all-new bodywork just as the R and RS. The updates on the R include a new fly screen, air intake, side panels and updated rear unit. These features give the bike a more distinctive sporty look.

The fly screen and the air intake are much more pronounced. In addition to the new twin LED headlights, which gives a striking, distinctive front end while increasing the visibility.

The mirrors and silencer have been restyled to enhance the aggressive look of the Street Triple R. The bike comes in two new paint and graphics schemes, Sapphire Black and Matt Silver Ice. Both the schemes feature Diablo red and Aluminium silver decals. On top of this hand-painted red wheel pinstripes and the street triple red rear sub-frame show Triumph’s attention to details on the R.

Engine and Powertrain

The new 765cc engine retains its world-renowned, class-defining performance while being Euro 5 compliance. The engine is even more responsive thanks to 7% reduction in rotational inertia which brings useful low-down and mid-range torque. The Street Triple R’s engine delivers peak power of 118PS/ 116Hp at 12,000 rpm. As for the Torque, the bike delivers 77 Nm of peak torque at 9,400 rpm.

The upgrades on the airbox and the exhaust system deliver crisper triple roar while maintaining a smooth balance between the intake sound. Yes, the intake whistle and the triple roar triggers me too! The redesigned airbox and exhaust also help the new R meet the Euro 5 regulations.

Just as the top-spec RS model, the R also gets a smooth gearbox with short first and second gears. This delivers exceptional acceleration and smooth gear changes. On top of this, the bike also features a slip and assist clutch which lowers clutch lever effort and improves rider’s ergonomics and control.

Brakes

As for the brakes, the bike features high specification Brembo M4.32 four-piston radial monobloc front callipers with an optimised brake pad. On the rear, the R features Brembo single piston sliding calliper.

Suspension

The R boasts a Showa 41mm upside-down separate function big piston forks and Showa piggyback reservoir mono-shock RSU. Both are fully adjustable for preload, compression damping and rebound damping.

Features

The R now has Triumph shift assist up and down with quick shifter as standard. This adds more smooth, comfortable and rapid gear changes without the use of clutch while maintaining the accelerator position.

The bike features three riding modes – Road, Rain and Sport; this ensures maximum control in all conditions. In the rain mode, the ECU restricts the peak power to 100ps / 98.6 Hp for a smoother ride. The R also features ride-by-wire, traction control and ABS. The adjustable throttle response and traction control settings are easily accessible via the R’s LCD instrument cluster on the move.

The Low Ride Height Version

There is a Low Ride Height (LRH) version available for the new Street Triple R where the seat height is 780mm, which is 45mm lower than the standard.  Triumph made this possible by having dedicated suspension setup and modified seat construction.

Conclusively, the new 2020 Street Triple R is now more suitable for more riders, with a more affordable level of specification.

Price

As for now, the pricing of the Street Triple R is still not yet known. According to sources, the 2020 Triumph Street Triple R would be priced at $2050 (RM8,480) less than the RS. The 2020 Street Triple RS is currently priced at Rm 68,000 which means the R would definitely be a good buy!
