Ducati says every single technical choice that was made during the development of this engine focuses on ensuring maximum fluidity of operation and a substantial extension of maintenance intervals.

Thanks to the spring valve return system, it brings the maintenance intervals of the new V4 engine to 60,000 km. Ducati says they have utilised their in-depth expertise in material selection, treatment and technical solution from the Desmodromic system into this new spring valve return system. This new spring valve return system exerts less stresses on the components compared to Desmo (Desmodromic valvetrain system).

While being Euro 5 compliant, the new 1158 cc 90° V4 Granturismo engine delivers 170hp @ 10,500 rpm and a peak torque of 125 Nm @ 8,750 rpm. New V4 Grantrorismo weighs just 66.7kg which is 1.2 kg lighter than the Multistrada 1260’s Testastretta Twin-cylinder engine.  Aside from this, the new V4 engine measures only 20mm wider, 85 mm shorter and 95 mm lower compared to the Twin-cylinder engine. Ducati says this helps to house the engine in the frame effectively and also helps to enhance the centre of gravity of the entire bike.

The V4 Granturismo engine also gets elements derived from Ducati’s experience in the racing world too. The counter-rotating crankshaft improves the agility and handling of the bike. Furthermore, the “Twin Pulse” technology, offers a perfectly balanced and manageable power delivery at all speeds.

To enhance rider comfort, the rear bank of the  V4 engine is deactivated at idle which lowers the temperature of the engine to improve the comfort of the rider and passenger while reducing the fuel consumption.
