Triumph Motorcycles has officially revealed the latest model in collaboration with Bajaj Auto, putting an end to all the speculation and rumours that have been floating around for months before.
The collaboration saw the birth of two brand new models, the Triumph Speed 400 and the Triumph Scrambler 400 X. Both of these models feature the latest TR platform. According to Triumph, the TR platform is specific to Triumph machines and will not be used by Bajaj.
The TR engine on the Triumph Speed 400 is a 398cc single-cylinder platform with fuel injection and liquid cooling. It is capable of producing 39.5hp at 8,000rpm and 37Nm at 6,500rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The suspension package consists of a 43mm USD fork with a 140mm travel distance. The rear part houses a monoshock with an adjustable ‘preload’ function.
The brake system consists of a front 4-pot brake calliper with a 300mm brake disc and a rear 1-pot brake calliper with a 230mm brake disc. ABS also comes as standard including steel-braided brake hoses.
In addition, this Triumph Speed 400 also comes with 17-inch rims matched with Metzeler Sportec M9RR tires as standard. Although it has a displacement of 400cc, this motorcycle offers a 13L tank as well as guarantees efficient fuel consumption.
Interestingly, Triumph also added some high-tech functions to this Speed 400 variant. This includes a ‘ride-by-wire’ system, traction control (can be turned off) and a ‘torque-assist’ type clutch.
According to Triumph, the Speed 400 will start entering the Indian market around July this year. It will then start to penetrate foreign markets around early 2024. According to sources, the 400cc variant will be available in Malaysia in the near future.
