MotoGP – Lin Jarvis leaves the door open for Jorge Lorenzo

Lin Jarvis (right) is open to the idea of having Jorge Lorenzo back with Yamaha

After many weeks of speculation about Jorge Lorenzo’s future, there’s another important person in the MotoGP paddock that has spoken about the contract situation of the triple MotoGP champion.

Lin Jarvis, the director of Yamaha Factory Racing, has given an interview to Italian channel SKY Sport HD, in which he addresses the fact that Lorenzo is in a tight spot to find a new team, especially in a factory team, and makes sure to leave the door open for Lorenzo to return to Yamaha.

Jarvis explains that Lorenzo’s negotiations with Suzuki crumbled apart when the Japanese team focused their attentions in Joan Mir, current Moto2 rookie rider and also Moto3 champion. And the Yamaha director even goes on saying that Jorge Lorenzo and Ducati will almost surely part ways in the end of this season.

So, Yamaha has a chance to get back the last rider to give them a MotoGP title, and Lin Jarvis says that the Japanese brand won’t say no to Lorenzo’s return to Yamaha. But he makes sure to let everyone know that the bike Lorenzo would ride if he returns to Yamaha, will be a satellite M1, so, it’s a less competitive bike than the ones used by Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales.

Lin Jarvis also believes that Jorge Lorenzo could, if he can’t find a competitive bike, take a year off racing and return in the 2020 season.

As always these are just speculations, but the longer Jorge Lorenzo doesn’t announce a new contract or the renewal with Ducati, the harder it will be for him to find a good bike to race in 2019.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
