Jawa Motorcycles set to make a comeback with three new bikes this year

Jawa Motorcycles went on to become “Yezdi” few decades ago and is one of the most desirable two-wheeler manufacturers in the market. Launched in India in 1950 under Ideal Jawa India Limited, the infamous Czech brand was based out of Mysore and started manufacturing bikes the in 60s.

The company ceased operations by mid-90s due to the increasing demand for modern and lighter bikes. The firm has been out of production since over two decades. This time, it will be making a comeback as Mahindra recently bought the controlling stakes in Classic Legends and now has plans to re-introduce the iconic brand.

According to Anupam Thareja, founder of Classic Legends, has commented that the launch of the Jawa brand in India will happen “before the end of the year.” It has also come to be known that the company would start its operations with three motorcycles.

“We had two options: you start from the point where it ended. Or start where it would have gone had it not ended at the time. From a design POV, it’s got that golden ratio that transcends through time. With the lines you can recognize it’s a Jawa bikes,” he stated.

The new Jawa bikes in India are likely to share their engine and with the Mahindra Mojo. It is likely that the liquid cooling and the fuel injection system will be retained. The India-spec models will be produced at Mahindra’s Pithampur facility in Madhya Pradesh.
