As promised by Dorna and the FIM, the 2019 MotoGP provisional calendar was released today and, as expected, there aren’t any surprises regarding the races that all the riders will need to face next season.
The biggest doubt was the possibility that Mexico could get a Grand Prix race because the new Kymi Ring circuit in Finland isn’t ready yet to be included in 2019, but there isn’t a Mexican GP included in the provisional calendar.
In total we will get 19 races, with the first being the Qatar GP in Losail in the beginning of March, a night race as usual, and the last race will be the usual Valencia GP at Circuito Ricardo Tormo, in Spain, towards the end of November.
So, without any new track entering in 2019, the next MotoGP season won’t have any surprise. The only change is the new Summer break that rises from the current three weeks stop to a total of four weeks, between the German GP and the Czech GP. Riders have complained that the current three-week Summer break isn’t enough to recover their fitness, so Dorna and the FIM accepted their request.
To be confirmed also the situation regarding the British GP at Silverstone. Given that this year’s race was a complete fiasco, Dorna representatives have already said that they will only return to Silverstone if the British racetrack gets a new asphalt capable to cope with heavy rain. As of now, Silverstone remains, but there could be a change.
