In a series of setbacks at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) during the World Motorcycle Championship (MotoGP) 2023, Malaysia’s Moto3 rider, Syarifuddin Azman, popularly known as Damok, is set to face an uphill battle as he gears up for the main race starting from the last position.
The 22-year-old rider experienced a string of challenges during the qualifying races, culminating in a disappointing finish. Damok will be starting in the bottom position with a time of 2 minutes 13.499 seconds. Damok’s struggle became apparent earlier during the third practice session. He managed to secure the second last place (27th) with a recorded time of 2 minutes 14.199 seconds.
“In the FP3 session earlier, my team made changes to the machine, but I still feel the same. So, I couldn’t adapt well to the machine. During the qualifying session, my team made significant changes to the machine. There was an improvement compared to before, but there are still some setups that we need to fix. I am not happy with the session results this week.
This is my home race, so I am somewhat disappointed that I couldn’t show a good performance in front of all the fans. I’m hopeful that we can find a better setup tomorrow that will make me feel more confident with the bike and lead to better results.”
As Damok faces the challenge of starting from the rear of the grid, his determination and the team’s efforts to fine-tune the machinery could play a pivotal role in shaping his performance in the Malaysian Grand Prix. With the unpredictability of racing conditions, all eyes will be on Damok as he aims to overcome adversity and make a mark in this highly competitive MotoGP event.
